Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. Poway Titans
The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders's 21-10 record from last season is now well into the rear view mirror after another tough outing. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 49-29 walloping at the hands of Poway on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Mater Dei Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 538th, while Poway is ranked 158th).
Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Promise Martin, who scored 7 points along with 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Martin is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Awen Carrillo was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Poway's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mya McGowan, who scored 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Hawkins, who scored 12 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Mater Dei Catholic and nudges their season record down to 1-3. As for Poway, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Mater Dei Catholic's road trip will continue as they head out to face Marlborough at 4:30 p.m. on December 1st. Marlborough is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. As for Poway, they will face off against Dobson at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
