Baseball Recap: Salem Comes Up Short

Salem had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 7-13 to make it four. They came up short against the Pebblebrook Falcons, falling 18-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Seminoles of the 11-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

As for Pebblebrook, the win snapped their losing streak at eight games and leaves them with a 7-18 record. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th (when they won 16-0).

For Pebblebrook's part, David Figgs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Figgs also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Pebblebrook is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 4-18 otherwise. Figgs was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tyler Holmes and Damian (DJ) Phipps did most of the damage at the plate: Holmes got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Phipps went 1-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs Holmes has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jadyn Marshall, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.

As of now, neither Salem nor Pebblebrook have any future games scheduled.
