Soccer Game Preview: Maywood CES vs. Marquez

The Maywood CES Wolfpack will square off against the Marquez Gladiators at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Maywood CES is headed into Thursday's following a draw, the team's first since December 16. They and Maywood Academy finished up on equal footing with a 3-3 draw on Monday. While a more conclusive result would've been nice, the Wolfpack got plenty of practice considering the match was the highest-scoring draw the team's played all season.

Joanna Rosas and Janely Gonzalez scored all three of Maywood CES's goals, bringing their combined season tally to ten goals.

Meanwhile, Marquez had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 goals) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. Their defense stepped up to hand the Toros a 7-0 shutout. Considering the Gladiators have won seven contests by more than two goals this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Marquez has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-6-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 40 goals over those seven matchups. Maywood CES's draw makes their record 9-5-4 this season.

Maywood CES was able to grind out a solid win over Marquez when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Maywood CES since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
