Basketball Recap: Somerset Sets Scoring Season-High Against Chestnut Ridge

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Somerset). They walked away with a 70-58 win over the Chestnut Ridge Lions on Monday. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Eagles were down 33-18 in the second quarter.

Eve Housley was her usual excellent self, putting up 60 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Somerset's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Reagan Holmes, who posted two points along with nine boards and four steals.

Somerset smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Chestnut Ridge's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leah Vent, who put up 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. The dominant performance gave Vent a new career-high in points. Naiara Shaffer was another key player, posting 11 points along with six boards and five steals.

Somerset's win bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Chestnut Ridge, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-17.

Somerset wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-51 defeat against Penn Cambria on the 29th. As for Chestnut Ridge, they have also already played their next matchup, a 63-31 loss against Bishop McCort on the 29th.
