Baseball Recap: Mater Dei Takes a Loss

Mater Dei was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 13-5 to the Centralia Orphans. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Orphans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Mater Dei saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Hayden Melone, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Mater Dei's record now sits at 2-8. As for Centralia, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-6.

Coming up, Mater Dei will head out to face off against Hillsboro at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Hiltoppers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed ten runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Centralia, they will challenge Murphysboro at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Devils will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Orphans surely won't give up without a fight.
