Basketball Recap: Maxwell Comes Up Short

If Maxwell was riding high fresh off their 56-18 takedown of South Loup on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats fell 52-41 to the Cambridge Trojans on Saturday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wildcats of the 46-39 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2025.

Despite the loss, Maxwell still got an impressive performance from Kristyn Cheek, who went 9-for-17 en route to 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. The matchup was Cheek's third in a row with at least 17 points. Emory Christensen was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with nine points and ten boards.

Mallory Springer had another great game (as she tends to do), almost dropping a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds for Cambridge. With that strong performance, Springer is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Aspen Webb, who posted nine points along with five boards and three steals.

Maxwell has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season. As for Cambridge, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Coming up, Maxwell will host Brady at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cambridge, they will head out to square off against Wauneta-Palisade at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
