Festus waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Jefferson Blue Jays a 16-0 shutout. Considering the Tigers have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Ava Oberle was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Oberle was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mia Metzger and Kendahl Johnson did most of the damage at the plate: Metzger went 1-for-2 with four RBI and one run, while Johnson went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Keeleigh Hankins, who earned two RBI and two runs.
Festus hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in seven consecutive games.
Festus' victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Jefferson, their loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-6.
Coincidentally, Festus and Jefferson will both be playing East Carter the next time they take the field. The Blue Jays will host the Redbirds at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Tigers will play them later in the day, at 2:00 p.m.
