Baseball Game Preview: Crystal Lake Central Tigers vs. Jacobs Eagles

The Crystal Lake Central Tigers will square off against the Jacobs Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Crystal Lake Central took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Cary-Grove, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers won by a run and slipped past the Trojans 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since March 27, 2025.

Meanwhile, Jacobs faced Huntley in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Eagles came out on top in a nail-biter against the Red Raiders, sneaking past 2-1. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor in this series.

George Donze spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Jacobs saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jace Koth, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Jacobs' victory bumped their record up to 13-4. As for Crystal Lake Central, their win bumped their record up to 7-12.

Crystal Lake Central might still be hurting after the 7-0 defeat they got from Jacobs in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
