The Ursuline Academy Bears will square off against the Incarnate Word Academy Red Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ursuline Academy has given up an average of 12 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Ursuline Academy's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 15-0 to Cor Jesu Academy, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Bears haven't had much luck with the Chargers recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.
Incarnate Word Academy let St. Charles West stack five runs on them in the seventh inning on Monday but luckily Incarnate Word Academy prevailed anyway. The Red Knights came out on top against the Warriors by a score of 9-6.
Layla Portis made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Makenna Brannam was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Mary Kling was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Incarnate Word Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Charles West only managed nine.
Incarnate Word Academy pushed their record up to 10-8 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Ursuline Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
