Softball Game Preview: Adams City Eagles vs. Thornton Trojans

Adams City hasn't had much luck against Thornton recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Eagles will square off against the Trojans at 4:00 p.m. Adams City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

Adams City took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 17-5 margin over Jefferson. The high-scoring effort was just what the Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.

Anastasia Ruiz was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Helle Gonzales also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Thornton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They never let the Trailblazers get on the board and left with an 8-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won eight games by seven runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Payton Lopez, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Elenna Gray, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Adams City's record now sits at 5-9. As for Thornton, their record is now 14-2-1.

Adams City might still be hurting after the 21-4 defeat they got from Thornton in their previous meeting on September 6th. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
