Baseball Recap: Normal Community Finds Playoff Glory Versus Plainfield South

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Normal Community walked away with it. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Plainfield South Cougars a 10-0 shutout on Wednesday. Considering the Ironmen have won 25 matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Plainfield South's batters probably weren't too happy with Gavin Swartz, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (he gave up two walks). Swartz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carter Harris, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucas Beaty, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and two doubles.

Normal Community's win was their 37th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 33-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Plainfield South, their loss dropped their record down to 12-18.

Normal Community has already played their next game, a 10-0 win against Moline on the 30th. Plainfield South does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
