Baseball Recap: Eastern Hancock Gets the Win

After losing to Centerville the last time they met, Eastern Hancock decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Royals came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 11-6 on Saturday.

Hayden Rouse and Caleb Retherford made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Rouse struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Retherford tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Rouse earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base, while Retherford went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Eastern Hancock got a massive performance out of Gavin Jenkins, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Jenkins is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Wes Engleking was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Eastern Hancock's win bumped their record up to 13-7. As for Centerville, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-10.

Coming up, Eastern Hancock will face off against Northeastern at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Knights' pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so the Royals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Centerville, they will square off against Union County at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
