For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mangum and Merritt meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. The Tigers' pitcher stepped up to hand the Oilers a 7-0 shutout. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by seven runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Paelyn Clark's shutout, as she gave up just six hits.
At the plate, Giselle Rowell was excellent, going 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Hallie Smith was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Mangum pushed their record up to 16-6 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for Merritt, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-3.
Coming up, Mangum will face off against Frederick at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Merritt does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
