The Mogollon Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Duncan Wildkats at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Mogollon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Mogollon turned things around against Ash Fork/Seligman on Tuesday. They blew past the Spartans 14-7.
Kaddie Porter made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Porter was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Kindsey Porter was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Haidyn Franco, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs.
Meanwhile, Duncan beat Fort Thomas 9-5 on Tuesday. The Wildkats haven't had any issues with the Apaches recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Reymia Contreras spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits.
On the hitting side, Duncan got a massive performance out of Shaylynn Rhoton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Chamberlin, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Duncan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .641. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Thomas only posted an OBP of .333.
Mogollon's record is now 8-12. As for Duncan, their record now sits at 13-6.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mogollon has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. However, it's not like Duncan struggles in that department as they've averaged .555. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Mogollon's way against Duncan in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as Mogollon made off with a 15-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
