Basketball Preview: Beyer Patriots vs. Johansen Vikings

Beyer and the Vikings are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The Beyer Patriots will head out on the road to square off against the Johansen Vikings at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Beyer is no doubt hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.

Last Tuesday, Beyer ended up a good deal behind the Spartans and lost 63-48. While losing is never fun, Beyer can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 923rd, while the Spartans are ranked 412th).

Meanwhile, Johansen had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 36-32 W over Lathrop on Thursday.

It was another big night for Jamie Zarilla, who scored eight points along with eight steals and seven rebounds. Zarilla is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Bethany Albarran was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and two steals.

Beyer has not been sharp recently as the team's lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-19 record this season. As for Johansen, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-12.

Beyer came up short against the Vikings when the teams last played back in January, falling 57-49. Can Beyer avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
