Football Game Preview: Cibola Cougars vs. Farmington Scorpions

The Cibola Cougars will face off against the Farmington Scorpions at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Cibola is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Cleveland, who was ranked second at the time (Cibola was ranked 13th). The Cougars lost 27-6 to the Storm on Friday. The game marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Meanwhile, Farmington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Volcano Vista, falling 29-7.

Cibola will have to contain Rock Kalcich as he made an impact in Farmington's last game. He rushed for 119 yards.

Cibola's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Farmington, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground. Cibola has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 170.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 177.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Cibola was taken down by Farmington 37-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Cougars, Waylon Schake (who rushed for 54 yards and a pair of TDs, and also threw for 208 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time.
