Basketball Game Recap: Mission Viejo Diablos vs. Capistrano Valley Cougars

Mission Viejo won the last time they faced Capistrano Valley, and Sofia Gozzo did her part to make sure it happened again. Everything went the Mission Viejo Diablos' way against the Capistrano Valley Cougars on Tuesday as the Mission Viejo Diablos made off with a 47-24 win thanks in part to Gozzo, who went 11 of 22 on her way to 26 points in addition to eight boards and eight steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Savanna Whitesides, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played.

Mission Viejo's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 8-16. As for Capistrano Valley, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.

Mission Viejo and Capistrano Valley could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Mission Viejo will take on Tesoro at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday down 587 places (1006 vs. 419). Meanwhile, Capistrano Valley (ranked 1193rd) will meet El Toro (ranked 311th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
