Basketball Recap: St. Johns Falls Short of Miami in the Playoffs

St. Johns and Miami squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but St. Johns had to settle for second. They took a 64-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Miami Vandals. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Redskins, who until this contest were averaging 28.17 points allowed.

When it comes to explaining why St. Johns lost, don't look at Evelyn Andrus. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double with 21 points and ten boards. Andrus has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Sarah Patterson was another key player, dropping a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, St. Johns smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Miami only five offensive rebounds.

It was another big night for Tamia Pietila, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine steals for Miami. What's more, Pietila posted four blocks, the most she's had since back in January. Another player making a difference was Demetria Dosela, who put up 12 points along with five rebounds and three blocks.

St. Johns' defeat dropped their record down to 30-6. As for Miami, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 29-2.

St. Johns does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Miami, they will challenge Arizona Lutheran Academy at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Miami is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 71.3 points per game this season.
