Football Recap: LJ Gonzales and Jalyn Burton Pace Randle Defense + How To Watch

Randle gave up the first points on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against the Iowa Colony Pioneers by a score of 49-42. Things were looking grim for the Lions in the first quarter (they were down by 21) but they stormed back to get the game.

Randle's defensive line made their presence known, laying out Carson White. six times. The heavy lifting was done by LJ Gonzales and Jalyn Burton, who racked up five sacks between them. Gonzales also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with seven. Randle got some further help from Julian Gerena: he made 13 total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Several Pioneers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was White, who rushed for 89 yards and four TDs, and also threw for 195 yards and a pair of touchdowns. A healthy portion of that aerial production (111 yards to be exact) went to Jayden Warren, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Randle's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Iowa Colony, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Randle and Iowa Colony will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Lions see the field they'll take on Texas City at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. As for Iowa Colony, their break will end when they face Santa Fe at 7:00 p.m. on October 9.
