Basketball Recap: Grant Takes a Loss

Grant has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were outmatched by the McClatchy Lions and fell 82-39. While losing is never fun, the Pacers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 175th, while the Lions are ranked 15th).

Asia Washington and Jalaysia Clements certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Washington almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards, while Clements posted 14 points and five rebounds. Washington is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 21 games she's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nerissa Hamilton, who put up six points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Grant smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Grant's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for McClatchy, they pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season.

Grant didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-45 win against Laguna Creek on the 20th. McClatchy has also already played their next matchup, a 71-54 victory against Mission Hills on the 20th.
