Preview: Tussey Mountain Titans vs. Mount Union Trojans
After two games on the road, Tussey Mountain is heading back home. They will take on the Mount Union Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Tussey Mountain lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Saturday was a bit more commanding. They were outmatched by Southern Huntingdon County on the road and fell 75-42. While losing is never fun, Tussey Mountain can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while Southern Huntingdon County is ranked 127th).
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Brianna Gabrielson, who scored nine points. Another player making a difference was Maelee Sheeder, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Mount Union suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of Moshannon Valley by a score of 46-43. That's two games in a row now that Mount Union has lost by exactly three points.
Tussey Mountain has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season. As for Mount Union, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-10.
Everything went Tussey Mountain's way against Mount Union in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as Tussey Mountain made off with a 47-27 win. Does Tussey Mountain have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mount Union turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
