Baseball Recap: Wilcox County Snags Seventh Win in Last Eight Games

Wilcox County never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past the Wheeler County Bulldogs 15-0. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by eight runs or more this season.

Wilcox County let Deacon McDuffie and Tre Griffin run wild. McDuffie scored four runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-4, while Griffin scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. What's more, Griffin posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Deacon Harper, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Wilcox County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 8.88 hits in those games compared to only 4.25 in the others. This is the second loss in a row for Wheeler County and nudges their season record down to 3-7.

Coming up, Wilcox County will host Bleckley County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Wilcox County has won three straight at home, while Bleckley County won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. As for Wheeler County, they will welcome Tattnall County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Wheeler County has given up an average of 8.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
