Basketball Recap: JW North Takes a Loss

JW North played a tough match on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Poly Bears, falling 73-41. The Huskies were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-16.

Several Huskies players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Maya Marmolejo, who posted 14 points and six rebounds. Marmolejo has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Avery Aguilar, who earned nine points.

Even though they lost, JW North smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Poly got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Juliet Zaragoza out in front who had 15 points. Those 15 points gave Zaragoza a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Folsom, who scored 15 points.

JW North's record is now 6-17. As for Poly, their record now sits at 12-13.

JW North and Poly could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. JW North (ranked 1117th) will meet Canyon Springs (ranked 495th) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Poly will square off against Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Monday down 227 places (408 vs. 181).
