Basketball Game Preview: Lompoc Braves vs. Mission Oak Hawks

The Lompoc Braves will challenge the Mission Oak Hawks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lompoc is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak.

Last Tuesday, Lompoc came up short against San Luis Obispo and fell 50-37. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 454th, while the Tigers are ranked 103rd).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Tara Terrones, who posted 11 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Baird, who put up ten points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Mission Oak played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Dinuba, falling 55-35. The Hawks were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-7.

Lompoc will have to contain Braelyn Serpa as she made an impact in Mission Oak's last game. She earned 14 points and three steals. Serpa has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times she's played. Miya Centeno was another key player, putting up eight steals.

Even though they lost, Mission Oak smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds every time they've taken the court this season.

Lompoc's loss dropped their record down to 12-15. As for Mission Oak, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-15.
