Basketball Recap: Grace Thomsen's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Xavier Prep over La Quinta

Xavier Prep lost against La Quinta back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Xavier Prep Saints fell 48-41 to the La Quinta Blackhawks.

Xavier Prep's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Grace Thomsen, who almost dropped a double-double with 25 boards and nine blocks. Xavier Prep is 4-2 when Thomsen posts ten or more rebounds, but 5-16 otherwise. Emma Thomsen was another key player, putting up 19 points along with eight boards and five steals.

La Quinta found their leader in freshman Leahnette Castro-Galarza, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Castro-Galarza has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Sophie Barrow, who posted six points in addition to 11 boards and five steals.

Xavier Prep's loss dropped their record down to 9-18. As for La Quinta, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-11.

Xavier Prep didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 49-28 defeat against Palm Desert on the 5th. As for La Quinta, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 65-9 loss against Shadow Hills on the 5th.
