Softball Recap: Gross Catholic Takes a Loss

Gross Catholic extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-2. They lost 12-0 to the Waverly Vikings. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 14-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

As for Waverly, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs this season.

For Waverly's part, Luci Thieman looked comfortable as she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alexis Bivens, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Hailey Recker was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Coming up, Gross Catholic will take on Omaha South at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Waverly, they will square off against Omaha Westside at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
