Basketball Game Preview: Whitney Wildcats vs. McClatchy Lions

Whitney hasn't had much luck against McClatchy recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Whitney Wildcats take on the McClatchy Lions at 7:30 p.m. Both are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.

Whitney is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 67-43 margin over West Park on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win the Wildcats have posted since February 16th.

Whitney had a senior duo take command as Kendall Dykstra went 7 for 13 on her way to 19 points and six rebounds and Tylie Kitchen went 6 of 9 on her way to 14 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dykstra has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalia Benavidez, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 11 points and six steals.

Whitney smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 20 consecutive games dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, McClatchy took their match on Thursday with ease, bagging a 65-30 victory over Davis Sr. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Blue Devils are ranked 382nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Whitney now has a winning record of 4-3. As for McClatchy, their win bumped their record up to 4-2.

Whitney came up short against McClatchy when the teams last played back in February, falling 73-67. Can Whitney avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
