Football Game Preview: Savannah Bluejackets vs. Screven County Gamecocks

Savannah is 0-3 against Screven County since October of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Bluejackets will challenge the Gamecocks at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Savannah is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Claxton on Friday. The Bluejackets walked away with a 19-6 victory over the Tigers. The Bluejackets' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Savannah didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Tyshaun Coleman and Caden Wright. Savannah got some further help from Eli Frieson: he made 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Screven County put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Metter as they made off with a 27-7 win. The result was nothing new for the Gamecocks, who have now won six matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.

Savannah better keep an eye on Demarko Ward. He was instrumental in Screven County's win, rushing for 210 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Those 210 rushing yards gave Ward a new career-high. Screven County also got a significant boost from AB Hilton, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.

Screven County's run defense was locked in: Metter could only muster 1.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Slate Thompson for the heroic effort on defense: he. Screven County didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged seven.

Screven County's record now sits at 7-0. As for Savannah, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.

Savannah suffered a grim 21-0 defeat to Screven County in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hilton, who rushed for 197 yards and a pair of scores.
