MaxPreps Top 25 high school football scores: Lone Peak upsets No. 6 Corner Canyon, 28-21

No. 10 IMG Academy bounces back with 27-14 win against No. 17 Bergen Catholic in Battle at the Beach.

Lone Peak (Highland, Utah) pulled off the biggest upset of the night taking down No. 6 Corner Canyon (Draper, Utah), 28-21. The Knights went into halftime with a 28-7 lead and held off a late rally from the Chargers.

Corner Canyon cut the deficit to 28-21 with 3:08 left after Helamen Casuga connected with Chryshaun Lee for a 3-yard score. The Chargers defense forced a punt and had a chance to tie it at the end but Casuga got sacked on the final play of the game at midfield.

A week after No. 11 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) went toe-to-toe with No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) they dropped to 0-2 with a 35-34 overtime loss against Blanche Ely (Pompano Beach, Fla.). The Lions overcame a 21-7 3rd quarter deficit and had a chance to win with a 30-yard field goal at the end of regulation but the attempt got blocked.

Junior quarterback Omari McNeal made a big-time play avoiding a sack and running it in from 10 yards out on 3rd and goal on the opening possession of overtime. The Lions scored on the first play on their possession in the first overtime, but the PAT was blocked to prevail the upset win for the Tigers.



The upsets continued Friday night as No. 16 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) and No. 23 Folsom (Calif.) both went down.

Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) took down the Huskies 31-15 as four-star junior wide receiver Trent Mosley had a huge night. He finished with nine receptions for 217 yards and accounted for three touchdowns.

Serra (San Mateo, Calif.) shutout the Bulldogs in the second half and walked away with a 22-21 win. The Padres scored with just over three minutes remaining to cut the lead to 21-19 but did not convert on the 2-point attempt. They recovered the ensuing onside kick and drove down the field as Brody Smith made a 38-yard field goal with 10 seconds remaining for the game-winning score.

No. 10 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) bounced back in a big with with an impressive 27-14 win over No. 17 Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) in the Battle at the Beach on Thursday. After the Ascenders went into halftime with a 7-0 lead, Ohio State-bound wide receiver Quincy Porter tied things up for the Crusaders with a 90-yard touchdown on their opening drive of the 2nd half.

IMG Academy dominated from that point on. 

Four-star senior quarterback Ty Hawkins had a monster night accounting for all four scores. His 51-yard touchdown run gave the Ascenders a 14-7 lead with 7:14 left in the 3rd quarter. Later in the quarter, he connected with freshman wide receiver Eric Mcfarland lll for a 47-yard score to extend the lead to 20-7.



After a Dominick Kelly interception, Hawkins scored his third rushing touchdown of the night for a 27-7 lead early in the 4th quarter. 

The win for the Ascenders avoids their first 0-2 start in program history as they have a huge matchup on Sept. 6 vs. No. 13 Cocoa (Fla.) around the corner. The Tigers dominated the defending 3S state champs Mainland (Daytona Beach, Fla.) with a 51-0 shutout win.

No. 25 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) beat No. 15 St. Joseph's Prep (Philadelphia) 35-21 in the only other MaxPreps Top 25 matchup this week. The three-time defending Division I state champs exploded for all 35 points in the 2nd quarter. 

Junior running back Brandon White finished with 19 carries for 104 yards and two total touchdowns. Senior defensive back Bradley Eaton was a huge factor on defense and special teams. He had an interception, blocked punt that resulted in a touchdown and returned a kickoff 93-yards for a score. 

Julian Lewis and No. 12 Carrollton (Ga.) cruised to a 44-22 win over Rome (Ga.). The five-star USC commit completed 30 of 35 passes for 352 yards and five touchdowns to go with a score on the ground.
