Baseball Game Preview: Hampton Hornets vs. Lamar County Trojans

The Hampton Hornets will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Lamar County Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Hampton is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Jonesboro. The Hornets blew past the Cardinals 21-5 on Monday.

Hampton let Leo Vivaldi Garcia and Jason Ward run wild. Vivaldi Garcia went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Ward went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Ward a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Aiken, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Hampton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jonesboro only posted a batting average of .231.

Meanwhile, Lamar County gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Washington County a 3-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Golden Hawks: they've now won three in a row.

Hampton skirted past Lamar County 2-1 in their previous matchup back in February of 2025. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
