Basketball Game Preview: Santa Catalina Cougars vs. King City Mustangs

Santa Catalina hasn't had much luck against King City recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Santa Catalina Cougars will head out to challenge the King City Mustangs at 7:00 p.m.

Santa Catalina is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game dating back to last season last Friday. They lost 40-17 to Seaside. One positive for the Cougars, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Meanwhile, King City beat Pacific Collegiate 46-34 on Thursday.

Santa Catalina better keep an eye on Amity Hearne. She was instrumental in King City's win, going 6 of 7 on her way to 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Hearne has been hot recently, having posted eight or more boards the last four times she's played. Crystal Paramo was another key player, putting up six points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

King City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive games.

King City is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-12 record this season. As for Santa Catalina, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Santa Catalina took a serious blow against King City in their previous matchup back in January, falling 64-12. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Paramo, who went 8 for 11 en route to 17 points along with six steals and five boards.
