Everything went their way against the Basalt Longhorns on Saturday as they made off with a 23-7 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 18-0 on Saturday.
Montezuma-Cortez got a massive performance out of Aubrey Taveria, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three hits gave Taveria a new career-high. Another player making a difference was AnnaLisa Abeyta, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Montezuma-Cortez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Basalt only posted a batting average of .364.
The victory made it two in a row for Montezuma-Cortez and bumps their season record up to 4-12. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 20.5 runs over those games. As for Basalt, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-11.
Montezuma-Cortez wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 22-4 victory against Aspen on the 16th. As for Basalt, they have also already played their next contest, a 19-5 win against Battle Mountain on the 16th.
