Softball Recap: Deerfield-Windsor Has No Trouble Against Dougherty

Deerfield-Windsor won the last time they faced Dougherty and things went their way on Thursday too. The Knights put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 11-3 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Mary Ruth Courtney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. Courtney was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, Anna Beth Brady was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and one double. Jennings Curington was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Deerfield-Windsor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dougherty only posted an OBP of .381.

Deerfield-Windsor's record now sits at 2-0. As for Dougherty, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deerfield-Windsor will face off against Southland Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dougherty, they will venture away from home to challenge Calhoun County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
