Basketball Recap: Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy Comes Up Short

If Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy was feeling good fresh off their 56-29 takedown of Big Bear last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy took a 48-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Riverside Prep Silver Knights. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy has struggled against Riverside Prep recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Michelle Otuonye almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 23 boards. Otuonye has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Maya Ortega, who posted seven points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Mya Graham was her usual excellent self, putting up 30 points along with seven boards and five steals for Riverside Prep.

Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 7-10. As for Riverside Prep, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season.

As of now, neither Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy nor Riverside Prep have any future games scheduled.
