Basketball Game Preview: Hoggard Vikings vs. Fayetteville Academy Eagles

The Hoggard Vikings will take on the Fayetteville Academy Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Hoggard gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They breezed past West Bladen to the tune of 81-48. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Vikings just coasted through the last quarter.

Hoggard relied on the efforts of Hunter McGrath, who made all 10 shots he took for 27 points and four steals, and Will Seward, who shot 4-for-6 from beyond the arc and almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine rebounds. McGrath has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Lukas Batchelor was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.

Hoggard was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Meanwhile, Fayetteville Academy waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They took their matchup with ease, bagging an 84-54 win over Cresset Christian Academy. That 30 point margin sets a new team best for Fayetteville Academy this season.
