Recap: Bakersfield Christian Eagles vs. Monache Marauders
The Bakersfield Christian Eagles lost against the Monache Marauders back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Bakersfield Christian fell 49-38 to Monache. While losing is never fun, Bakersfield Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Monache is ranked 55th).
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ava King , who scored six points along with 15 rebounds. King hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Destiny Francies, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Bakersfield Christian were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Monache only pulled down five offensive rebounds.
Leading Monache to victory were Kyah Bartlett and Shelley Andrade. Bartlett scored 11 points, while Andrade scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Bartlett is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Milly Rojas was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds.
Bakersfield Christian's loss ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-5. As for Monache, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bakersfield Christian will be home for the holidays to greet Torres at 6:30 p.m. on December 22nd. Torres is coming into the contest hot, having won their last six games. Monache will be home for the holidays to greet Clovis at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
