Baseball Recap: La Jolla Triumphs

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but La Jolla had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Palo Verde Valley Yellow Jackets 5-4. This was a revenge game for the Vikings: when they faced off against the Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, they had to take a 0-0 defeat.

The team relied heavily on Ryan Kourajian, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI and two doubles. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Brady Wilson was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.

La Jolla has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-15 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average over those games. As for Palo Verde Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 22-7-1.

Looking ahead, La Jolla will face off against Ramona at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season. Palo Verde Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
