Basketball Game Preview: Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes vs. Pottsville Crimson Tide

The Schuylkill Haven Hurricanes will head out to challenge the Pottsville Crimson Tide at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Schuylkill Haven easily dispatched Panther Valley on Wednesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. Schuylkill Haven fell just short of Blue Mountain by a score of 52-49 on Thursday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Hurricanes came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while the Eagles are ranked 448th).

Despite the defeat, Schuylkill Haven saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Mckenna Runkle posted 19 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Runkle has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Alea Porter, who put up eight points.

Meanwhile, Pottsville came up short against Conrad Weiser on Saturday and fell 50-38. The Crimson Tide have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Schuylkill Haven moved to 11-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Pottsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Schuylkill Haven was able to grind out a solid win over Pottsville in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, winning 43-31. The rematch might be a little tougher for Schuylkill Haven since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
