Football Recap: Pine River-Backus Starts Season with Loss on the Road

Pine River-Backus had to start their season on the road on Friday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They had to suffer through a 41-6 loss at the hands of the Upsala/Swanville Patriots. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 69-14 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2023.

A big part of the victory came down to the chemistry between Franky Meagher and his top target Jack Primus. Meagher threw for 185 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes while Primus picked up 97 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Primus got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of69 yards.

Pine River-Backus will be defending their home-field for the first timethey go up against New York Mills at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Upsala/Swanville, they will venture away from home to take on Long Prairie-Grey Eagle at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
