Baseball Recap: Aurora Central Catholic Comes Up Short

Aurora Central Catholic dropped down to 13-19 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the West Chicago Wildcats by a score of 6-4. The Chargers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Wildcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Aurora Central Catholic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brodie Curry, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Leo Corral was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for West Chicago, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-16-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

On West Chicago's side, Sam Zalak was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Anderson Campbell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Coming up, Aurora Central Catholic will square off against Genoa-Kingston at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.65 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of. West Chicago does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
