Softball Recap: Pueblo Central Comes Up Short

After flying high against Pueblo South on Thursday, Pueblo Central came back down to earth. The Wildcats fell just short of the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles by a score of 6-5 on Friday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Kaydence Martinez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sophia Perez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Maya Benitez, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Pueblo Central's defeat dropped their record down to 5-2-1. As for Mountain Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 2-7.

Looking ahead, Pueblo Central will square off against Lakewood at 1:15 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 11.5 runs per game this season. As for Mountain Vista, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Fruita Monument at 1:15 p.m. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something the Golden Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
