Football Recap: Mayfield Takes a Loss

Mayfield extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Saturday, dropping them down to 0-4. They lost 42-21 to the Gadsden Panthers. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 28-20 to the Panthers when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Gadsden, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 40.8 points this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gadsden to victory, but perhaps none more so than ETHAN MORALES, who rushed for 37 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 131 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 passes. The Panthers also got a significant boost from JUAN RIOS, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 150 yards.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mayfield will host Santa Teresa at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans will be up against the Desert Warriors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 41.25 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Gadsden, they will welcome Artesia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
