Football Recap: Staples Wins High-Profile Game Against West Haven

Staples faced West Haven in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wreckers won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by the Blue Devils 35-34. The Wreckers' victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.

Chaz Darby was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 156 yards and one TD, and also caught one score. He was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Charlie Clark got in on the action too, returning a kick for a touchdown.

Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 16 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Clark, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Staples' win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for West Haven, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Staples has already played their next game, a 31-6 victory against Darien on the 4th. As for West Haven, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 41-14 win against Xavier on the 3rd.
