Softball Recap: Fort Calhoun Has No Trouble Against Aquinas

Nine must be Fort Calhoun's lucky number: they beat Aquinas with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Pioneers were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Monarchs. The Pioneers haven't had any issues with the Monarchs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Lyla Pearson spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Madilyn Larrick was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Izabelle Greenough, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Fort Calhoun was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .343 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Fort Calhoun's win bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Aquinas, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season.

Fort Calhoun will be playing at home against Mercy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Aquinas, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 7-4 victory against Cass on the 13th.
