Baseball Recap: Newton Comes Up Short

Newton fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Grayson on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of Grayson by a score of 4-3. It was the first time this season that Newton let down their fans at home.

Josh Brown Jr was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Newton saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dare'On Adkins, who scored a run while going 1-for-5.

This is the second loss in a row for Newton and nudges their season record down to 8-3. As for Grayson, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.

Coming up, Newton will challenge Morgan County at 5:55 p.m. on Wednesday. Morgan County will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Newton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Grayson, they will face off against South Gwinnett at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Grayson's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while South Gwinnett has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
