Basketball Game Preview: San Leandro Pirates vs. Hayward Farmers

San Leandro has gone 9-1 against Hayward recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The San Leandro Pirates will head out to face off against the Hayward Farmers at 5:30 p.m. San Leandro will be strutting in after a win while Hayward will be coming in after a defeat.

San Leandro will roll into the contest after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up 23 points on Monday, then bounced right back against Mt. Eden on Thursday. San Leandro simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mt. Eden 60-27. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 26 points or more this season.

San Leandro can attribute much of their success to Ravyn Martin, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 20 boards, and Callie Turner, who went 7 of 9 on her way to 18 points. Martin is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least 14 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Musgrave, who posted five points along with five assists and three steals.

San Leandro was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Hayward was beaten by Mt. Diablo 64-17 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Farmers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 882nd, while the Red Devils are ranked 230th).

Hayward has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season. As for San Leandro, their victory bumped their record up to 7-3.

San Leandro beat Hayward 46-34 when the teams last played back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Leandro since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
