Baseball Recap: Hephzibah Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Harlem, Hephzibah was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top against the Salem Seminoles by a score of 9-6. The victory continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Seminoles: they've now won five in a row.

Ayden Hughes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Joel Mendez was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with six stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Christopher Kohn, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.

Hephzibah kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Hephzibah's win bumped their record up to 8-16. As for Salem, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-12.

Coming up, Hephzibah will take on Greene County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rebels are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Salem, they will challenge Pebblebrook at 5:55 p.m. on Friday. The Seminoles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season.
