Softball Recap: Lake Oconee Academy Comes Up Short

Lake Oconee Academy dropped down to 11-11 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 10-2 to the Washington-Wilkes Tigers. The Titans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers earlier this season, when they won 8-4.

Lake Oconee Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Kalmanowicz, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one RBI.

As for Washington-Wilkes, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Washington-Wilkes' side, Kennedy Danner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Danner has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Washington-Wilkes let Kaidyn Porter and Morgan Dove run wild. Porter went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Dove went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three hits gave Dove a new career-high. Molly Dawson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Looking ahead, Lake Oconee Academy will head out on the road to take on Baldwin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Braves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.88 runs per game on average), something the Titans will no doubt try to take advantage of. Washington-Wilkes does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
