Softball Recap: Papillion-Lavista Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Papillion-LaVista came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Marian Crusaders with a sharp 9-1 victory. The Monarchs have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Crusaders, too.

Kaylee Huffman spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Alexa Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Elli Ridgely, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Papillion-LaVista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .417 or higher in five consecutive contests.

Papillion-LaVista's win bumped their record up to 24-8. As for Marian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-16 record this season.

Papillion-LaVista will square off against Millard West at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Monarchs 3.4, the Wildcats 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Marian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
