High school girls basketball rankings: Grayson makes big jump in MaxPreps Top 25 after win over IMG Academy

No. 2 Long Island Lutheran takes down No. 4 Etiwanda 82-62 at Spalding Hoophall Classic.

The biggest jump in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school girls basketball rankings belongs to No. 9 Grayson (Loganville, Ga.), which jumped nine spots after handling IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) 73-56 on Saturday.

Georgia Tech commit Danielle Carnegie led the way for Grayson against IMG Academy with 30 points, six assists and four steals. The Rams, who also own a 20-point win over No. 24 Wesleyan (Norcross, Ga.) earlier in the year, backed up the IMG victory by beating Norcross 59-37 on Monday.

No. 4 Etiwanda (Calif.) split a pair of games over the holiday weekend at the Spalding Hoophall Classic. The Eagles beat No. 5 Sidwell Friends (Washington, D.C.) 71-56 on Friday before falling 82-62 to No. 2 Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) on Monday in a contest broadcast nationally by ESPNU. 

Long Island Lutheran saw its three stars shine in the win over Etiwanda. USC commit Kayleigh Heckel notched a triple-double with 24 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. Notre Dame pledge Kate Koval went for 32 points and 11 boards while Michigan commit Syla Swords added 15 points and 13 rebounds.

No. 8 Morris Catholic (Denville, N.J.) improved two spots in the rankings after a pair of victories in which twins Mia Pauldo and Mya Pauldo dominated. They combined for 47 in a win over Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) at Hoophall before adding 45 more between the two in a win over Bethany (Okla.).

No. 3 Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) and No. 14 Lake Highland Prep (Orlando, Fla.) each posted wins over ranked teams. Montverde Academy beat No. 24 Wesleyan and Lake Highland Prep knocked DME Academy (Daytona Beach, Fla.) from the rankings.

1. Archbishop Mitty (San Jose, Calif.)

The Monarchs rolled past two West Catholic Athletic League opponents before downing Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland) on Monday.

2. Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.)

The remaining schedule includes No. 3 Montverde Academy, No. 8 Morris Catholic and No. 5 Sidwell Friends.

3. Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.)

Jaloni Cambridge scored 12 and Vivian Iwuchukwu added 11 in the win over Wesleyan. Montverde returns home after 14 consecutive away games that saw the Eagles go 13-1.

4. Etiwanda (Calif.)
Record: 16-3 | Last week: 8
Kennedy Smith, who became the program's all-time leading scorer, had 29 in the win over Sidwell Friends.

5. Sidwell Friends (Washington, D.C.)
Record: 9-2 | Last week: 5
Zania Socka had 22 points in a bounce-back 53-48 win over once-ranked Sacred Heart (Louisville, Ky.).  Kendall Dudley scored 16 and sophomore Jayla Jackson added 13.

6. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.)
Record: 19-1 | Last week: 6
Jerzy Robinson exploded for 34 points in a blowout of Francis Parker (San Diego). Mackenly Randolph added 20 and 12 while Izela Arenas scored 18 points.

7. Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Md.)

South Carolina commit Maddy McDaniel led the Mustangs to a trio of wins, including a 66-60 victory over Sacred Heart (Louisville, Ky.).

8. Morris Catholic (Denville, N.J.)
Record: 13-0 | Last week: 10
Mia Pauldo dropped 30 in a 64-48 win over previously-ranked Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) before she and twin sister Mya Pauldo combined for 45 in a 67-63 win over Bethany (Okla.).

9. Grayson (Loganville, Ga.)

Erin Rodgers scored 18 in the win over IMG.

10. IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.)
Record: 17-2 | Last week: 4
The Ascenders got 12 each from Lena Girardi and Australian transfer Lara Somfai in the loss to Grayson.

11. Hebron Christian (Dacula, Ga.)

Kept rolling with three wins last week.

12. Mansfield Timberview (Arlington, Texas)

Junior Brooklyn Terry passed the 1,000-point mark for her career in an 86-32 win over Joshua.

Camila Depool had 20 and Lexi Blue added 19 as the Highlanders downed DME Academy (Daytona Beach) 61-60.

15. Johnston (Iowa)

The Dragons are back in action this week after two games were postponed last week because of weather.

16. Incarnate Word Academy (St. Louis, Mo.)

The nation's longest win streak stands at 114. If the weather cooperates, the Red Knights will take the floor again Friday against Christian Academy (Louisville, Ky.) and Saturday against previously-ranked Sacred Heart (Louisville, Ky.).

17. Putnam City West (Oklahoma City, Okla.)

A 72-48 win over Westmoore (Oklahoma City) was the lone game last week for the Patriots.

18. Thomas Dale (Chester, Va.)

Zoe Coleman and Blossom Wallace combined for 29 in a 59-36 win over Dublin Coffman (Dublin) on Monday.

Dee Alexander had 17 and Cyaira Miller and Ky Miller each added 15 in a 74-24 win over Fort Erie International of Canada.
